Yet, all scars serve as a sign of healing from where we’ve been, they also serve as a marking of victory in where we are going. There are many paths, but choosing the right one makes all the difference. For Branon, his story is a journey from yesterday’s tragedy to everyday freedom and renewal. Branon Dempsey is a Songwriter/Worship Leader, born in Conroe, Texas and grew up in Katy, Texas. At the age of five, Branon began playing drums and along the way, picked up piano, guitar, sang and wrote songs. From college, Branon majored in composition/performance with concentrations in pop, jazz, orchestral, choral, instrumental and vocal studies. In addition, he has a Master’s of Divinity in Worship, plus training from Maranatha Music. In his personal writing style, Branon’s sound is derived from vintage combinations of folk and southern rock genres to contemporary acoustic-rock and new-country styles. Songwriting influences range from the Beatles, James Taylor, Don Henley, Stephen Stills, Michael Card, Dan Huff, Monty Powell, Keith Urban, Paul Baloche and Steven Curtis Chapman. “Branon's life forever changed in the Winter of 1993. A senior at Taylor High School at that time, Branon had earned a 4-year scholarship to study music at the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston. On his way to work, he was involved in a devastating car accident that put him into the hospital for over a month, along with a 7 month bed recovery. He had 8 pinched nerves from his neck all the way down to the lower lumbar, and all muscles were pulled apart from his spine like a corn husk. He had suffered deep muscle and neurofibric damage, so critical that doctors could not even perform surgery. "I had to learn how to live with pain. Learning to walk all over again, change clothes, and even eat," recalls Dempsey. "I almost didn't graduate high school, but was home-schooled towards graduation. To the doctor's surprise I was able to recover, although it took 7 painful years to fully heal from my back injury. Through this experience, I have learned more about life and death – more than words can contain; I found my purpose along my journey. When I stand here and look back I wouldn't trade anything. Life’s milestones can build a foundation in preparation for the future. We each have our road to travel, this happens to be mine.” "Lying flat on my back in the hospital, I had no alternative but to trust in Someone greater than myself. See, I had received Christ to become my life, but I was still trying to live my life – my way. I realized that living life in my own strength was futile. God created me to be something more and someone for Him. The light turned on, the door was opened and I began to walk for the first time. During my recovery I fell in love with my high school sweet heart. Later, we married; she remained by my side through every episode of the hard road of recovery. I learned that I was being called to something greater, to declare a message, a story, an experience that conveyed Hope. I finally knew what I was created for and relentlessly followed my God and His calling to reach, love and share. There are many others who walk their own roads, darkness and obstacles. In this life, we are to bear and share each other’s burdens. If I can provide any means of encouragement and support, then I am fulfilling my calling. My mission is simple: to shine hope in dark places."” Article by Blaine Fallis – “Absolutely Katy” A Katy Community Magazine, Winter 2005. |
![]() T e s t i m o n y “Born in the country of Conroe Texas on the date of June 29, 1973, I was raised in a loving home, yet not without its own family fractures and imperfections. My mother and father divorced at the age of five; out of which, many other negative experiences had transpired. I became a born-again Christian was at the age of nine. Through the understanding of John 3:16-18, 2Cor. 5:21, Rom. 10:10, I received Christ as my personal Savior. From the road of my memory, I would search the deep blue skies to sing God heartfelt melodies; while at night dreams filled my mind of His return. Later in life, a call to ministry resounded in my heart through His Word: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” - Col. 3:16. The support and encouragement from family, mentors and the local church, confirmed my course of direction into music ministry. I celebrate what the Lord has done for the past eighteen years, while I continue to pursue this exciting journey. The Lord ignited music in my life, fueled with a love for serving Him and to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in people. My committed mission is to reach people through relationships, leading them to a personal faith, trust and growth in Jesus Christ. My vision is to connect people to Christ through the use of my music and the arts (Col. 3:16). As I continue to learn and grow, it is understood that Calling is above career, they are not the same. Calling is God’s charge over a person’s life as the workmanship of Christ in equipping and shepherding people (Eph. 1.11; Eph. 4.12; Php. 2.13; 1 Pet. 5.2); career is simply the trade and skill to complete given tasks of service. Still our work is to be the outflow of God and for His purposes (Eccl. 2.21, 24; 1Cor. 3.13; Col. 3.23, 1 Pet. 4.10-11)." - Branon Dempsey | ![]() Photo by Amy Christopher |
